Drawn in Brooklyn

December 10, 2010

Yesterday three Ossining Public Library Children’s Librarians were lucky enough to make a trek to Brooklyn for a wonderful talk and exhibit. The exhibition, called Drawn in Brooklyn, “features the work of 34 illustrators who live and work in Brooklyn, from the most exciting newcomers in publishing to the legends of the business.”

Some of the illustrators represented include:
Sophie Blackall (Big Red Lollipop; What’s So Bad About Being an Only Child?)
Peter Brown (Children Make Terrible Pets; The Curious Garden)
Bryan Collier (Clemente!; Dave the Potter)
Leo & Diane Dillon (Mother Goose Numbers on the Loose; The People Could Fly)
Brian Floca (Ballet for Martha; Moonshot: The Flight of Apollo 11)
Betsy Lewin (Click, Clack, Moo: Cows that Type; Duck for President)
Brian Pinkney (Little Diva; Sit-In: How Four Friends Stood Up by Sitting Down)
Brian Selznick (The Invention of Hugo Cabret; The Houdini Box)
Paul O. Zelinsky (Dust Devil; Rapunzel)

We were also treated to a talk by author/illustrator Brian Floca, and a tour of the exhibition by library staff.

The exhibition runs until January 23, 2011 and is open to the public. You can get more information at http://brooklynlibrary.org/events/drawn/.

More great news for Ossining’s Gary Golio!

December 6, 2010

We’ve been keeping track of news about  Jimi: Sounds Like a Rainbow by local author Gary Golio since it was published in October. “Jimi”  has been receiving  lots of attention lately! This past Sunday morning, Gary was interviewed by Rob Morrison on CBS tv. If you would like to see the interview, click here.

New York Public Library has included “Jimi”  in their list of best books of the year: Children’s Books 2010: 100 Titles for Reading and Sharing. This is a great list to check for holiday gifts for your children. The link for this list can be found here.

“Jimi” also makes an appearance on the Kirkus Reviews Best Books of the Year. Click here for the link to that excellent list.

Hooray!
