Easy Chinese for Kids

July 21, 2012

On Friday we had two fun back-to-back programs presented by Jennifer Huang, who volunteered her time (and lots of fun materials) for Easy Chinese for Kids.

The first session was for children entering preK to 2nd grade. They played games after learning the names of numbers and colors in Chinese.

The second session was for children entering grades 3 through 6. They also learned numbers and colors and played games, too.

Thank You Finn!!

July 18, 2012

We are very grateful to Ossining residents Nathan, Andrea & Finnigan Jew for donating books to the Ossining Public Library Children’s Room. On April 16th, Finn celebrated his 2nd birthday with a “Milk and Bookies” birthday party. Instead of gifts for Finn, party guests were encouraged to bring brand new books for donation to the library. Some of the books are now part of the Children’s Room collection and some are being given away to other children for Summer Reading Game Prizes.

Finn’s mom, Andrea, said, “The organization we used to help with the event was milkandbookies.org, a non-profit organization that encourages children to give back and share the love of reading, with books for other kids.”

Thank you to Finn and his mom and dad for the generous donation!

USING YOUR NOODLE…

July 12, 2012

Personally pasta is one of my favorite things to eat.  Spaghetti and meatballs would be my food of choice if stranded on a desert island.  So who knew we could have so much fun playing with it and not eating it!  We started with our craft of pasta trees and then read Strega Nona by Tomie dePaola.  The storytime would not have been complete without my rendition of “On Top of Spaghetti All Covered with Cheese…”  The only problem, It’s still stuck in my head three days later. Enjoy our pictures and join us next Tuesday July 17th as we make pasta rainbows.  Now off to Shoprite to buy more pasta.  For the link to see how to dye pasta at home see http://craftingagreenworld.com/2009/07/24/how-to-dye-dried-pasta-in-bright-happy-colors/.  I used gallon sized ziplock bags instead of jars and it worked fine.
