We’ve got lots of fun things happening in the library this summer. Our annual Summer Reading Programs begin Saturday, June 22, with a kick-off show: Father Goose Tales: A Shadow Puppet Show.

We Now Have Muzzy Online!

We are happy to announce that we have Muzzy, the BBC language program for children, now available online, through our web site.

Just go the the Children’s Room page, and then click on the Muzzy icon. Using your Ossining Public Library card number, you can log in, and enjoy Muzzy anytime, anywhere! There are eight languages available, including English, Spanish, Chinese, French, and more.

The Teddy Bears Have a Picnic

Tuesday was the last Preschool Pals for Spring 2013, and we celebrated with a Teddy Bear Picnic. We had lots of fun reading stories, singing songs, and taking our teddies to the “woods” for a picnic. Then all the children made teddy bears of their own and enjoyed snacking on Teddy Grahams.

We will be back with more storytimes beginning the week of July 8. Preschool Pals will be getting a makeover and coming back as Ready, Set, Kindergarten! Mostly the same as Preschool Pals, we’ll be adding some fun early literacy games and activities. Still Tuesdays at 2 pm. Hope to see you then!

Brick Builders Construct Castles

Children’s Choice Book Awards Winners Announced

More than 1,000,000 votes were cast this year for the Children’s Choice Book Awards. And the winners are….

Jeff Kinney is AUTHOR OF THE YEAR for Diary of a Wimpy Kid The Third Wheel.

Robin Preiss Glasser is ILLUSTRATOR OF THE YEAR for Fancy Nancy and the Mermaid Ballet.

Kindergarten to Second Grade Book of the Year: Nighttime Ninja, by Barbara DaCosta, illustrated by Ed Young.

Third to Fourth Grade Book of the Year: Bad Kitty for President, by Nick Bruel.

Fifth to Sixth Grade Book of the Year: Dork Diaries 4: Tales from a Not-So-Graceful Ice Princess, by Rachel Renee Russell.

Teen Book of the Year: The Fault in our Stars, by John Green.

Beary celebrates his birthday at the library!

Beary, the storytime bear, got to celebrate his birthday during Preschool Pals this week. The children put candles on his cake, and we all sang “Happy Birthday.” We also read some fun birthday books, and we sang “Here We Go Round the Birthday Cake” and “blew” out the candles on Beary’s cake.

Everyone got to make their own birthday cake.

Next week is our last Preschool Pals. We’re having a Teddy Bear Picnic, so bring your Teddy Bear to storytime!

Happy Mother’s Day from Preschool Pals

All the kids in Preschool Pals today loved listening to our stories about moms.

Everyone got to make a cool card for their mom using the pockets that library books used to have for cards. Of course, none of the kids remember these.
