The winners are…

This morning, the American Library Association announced the winners of the 2011 awards for the best books, video, and audiobooks published for children and young adults in 2010.

The Newbery Medal, for the most outstanding contribution to children’s literature, was awarded to Moon over Manifest, by Clare Vanderpool.

The Caldecott Medal, for the most distinguished American picture book for children, was given to A Sick Day for Amos McGee, illustrated by Erin E. Stead and written by Philip C. Stead.

Jimi: Sounds Like a Rainbow, illustrated by Javaka Steptoe, received a Coretta Scott King (Illustrator) Honor Book Award. The book was written by Ossining resident Gary Golio.
