Greetings from Camp Caldecott, Part 2

We continued our adventures in art this week in Camp Caldecott by reading and looking at books about nighttime. We had an interesting discussion of the different types of illustrations in children’s books, and how the artists make those illustrations. We learned what “mixed media” means, and then we created our own mixed media pictures.

Here’s what we read:
Cover Art for Sleep like a tiger  Cover Art for Where the wild things are

Some other great Caldecott-winning books about the night:
Kitten’s First Full Moon, by Kevin Henkes
A House in the Night, by Susan Marie Swanson (ill. by Beth Krommes)
Free Fall, by David Wiesner

Then everyone made a monster of their own:

If you are entering kindergarten through 3rd grade, join us next week. We’ll be making art from shapes and reading books about colors!
