And the OPLbery Medal Goes To…

Escape From Mr. Lemoncello’s Library, by Chris Grabenstein!

The OPLbery Club has been meeting–and reading–since April of 2013. Yesterday at their final meeting for this year’s mock Newbery, they voted for Escape From Mr. Lemoncello’s Library as the most outstanding book published in the U.S. in 2013.

They also gave Honors to the following books:

Rump, by Liesl Shurtliff
Magic Marks the Spot, by Caroline Carlson

The OPLbery Club kids had this to say about Escape From Mr. Lemoncello’s Library:
“It’s like no other book I ever read.”
“It’s so interesting you zone out to everything else and can’t stop reading.”
“It’s like a tree, it has so many little branches. And at the end they come together into one big tree!”
“They should make a library like that.”

They also thought Magic Marks the Spot was “so awesome and amazing” and “pretty funny.”

Rump was “very unexpected” and “made you have sympathy for Rumpelstiltskin.”

Thank you to all the OPLbery Club members for all your reading and all your incredible insights. We’ll be starting all over again in April. If you are interested in joining, come in and talk to one of the Children’s Librarians.
