January 31st was the Children’s room’s first Sci-Fri day! Sci-Fri day activities consist of either creations or challenges that allow children (in grades 3-6) to explore different aspects of science and how they interact with our world.
Our first Sci-Fri day was a Challenge, an Egg Drop! Our excited Sci-Friers had to create a cushioning system to protect their egg as it was dropped from a height of about 10ft.
Participants could only use the materials provided. They were each given: half a paper plate, a cardboard tube, a plastic cup, some newspaper, a small square of bubble wrap, a few wooden sticks, and tape.
9 children participated, 3 of them made strong enough structures to protect their egg. There were many egg casualties.
After a second round of drops, one emerged victorious!
Congratulations to all our Sci-Friers for a job WELL DONE!
