Earth Day STEAM!

Books about wind energy and supplies to make pinwheels

To celebrate Earth Day today, we learned about wind power during Full STEAM Ahead! We learned that wind is a renewable resource, and that currently about 4 percent of our electricity is generated by wind. Scientists hope that by the year 2050, one third of our electricity will be made by wind!

We also heard some pretty bad Earth Day jokes.

Electricity is made by wind using wind turbines. To get an idea of what the turbines do, we made pinwheels, and then tested them in front of a fan. They didn’t all work at first, but everyone had a working pinwheel before they left.
